How every guide works

Background first, then step by step

Every day page follows the same order, so you always know what to do next. You need the page, a Bible in any translation and a pen.

  1. 1

    Background first

What is going on: who, where, when and why, in a few plain lines, with chapter and verse.

  2. 2

    Now read

The passage, given by reference, to read in your own Bible.

  3. 3

    Walk through it

2 or 3 things to notice, each with its verse.

  4. 4

    Think it over

One question, with lines to write your answer.

  5. 5

    Pray

One line. Then tick the day done.

Questions

Which Bible do I need?

Any translation. Every passage is given by chapter and verse, so you read it in your own Bible. The short quotes on the pages are from the Berean Standard Bible, which is in the public domain.

Which Bible do these guides follow?

The Protestant Bible of 66 books: 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New. The guides stay with the text, without the doctrine of any one denomination.

What is the Bible tip-in edition?

Pages 5.5 × 8.5 in, printed two to a US Letter sheet, with 5 × 7 in trim marks. Print at 100%, cut the sheet in half and tuck the page inside your Bible; for a small Bible, trim it to the 5 × 7 in marks. Understand the Bible, the book studies and the couples studies have it.

Can I use them on a tablet?

Understand the Bible, the book studies, the couples studies and the family devotionals each include a tablet edition (810 × 1080 pt PDF). Kids lessons come in US Letter and A4.

How do I get my guide?

Where should I start?

With Understand the Bible. Its 30 guided days begin in Mark, a short Gospel, then read Genesis 1 to 12 and seven Psalms. Or start free: the first 3 days are in the Where to Start sample.

I have never really read the Bible. Is this too much?

Each day starts with the background, so you know what is going on before you read, and a guided day takes about 15 minutes. Skipped a day? Just carry on from where you stopped.
